I NEED SOME ANSWERS

Frequently Asked Questions

At Sequent, we know the world of websites can feel like alphabet soup—SEO, UX, CMS… enough acronyms to fill a bowl. That’s why we’ve put together answers to the most common questions we get from business owners just like you.

Your Website Questions, Answered Simply

Frequently Asked QuestionsLet’s face it—building, running, and maintaining a website can feel overwhelming. Between the jargon, the endless options, and the conflicting advice you’ll find online, it’s no wonder most business owners have more questions than answers. At Sequent, we believe the process doesn’t have to be confusing. That’s why we’ve created this dedicated FAQ page—to give you clear, straightforward guidance on everything from design timelines to SEO results, without the tech speak.

Whether you’re a small business owner exploring your very first website or an established organization looking to upgrade, these questions are the ones we hear most often. They cover the essentials—how much a professional website really costs, how long it takes to launch, and what kind of ongoing care is required to keep it running smoothly. We’ll also talk about website management, hosting, and the difference between working with a full-service agency like Sequent versus hiring a freelancer. In short, if it’s something you’ve been Googling or even asking AI search engines, you’ll probably find the answer here.

Of course, no two businesses are exactly alike. Your needs, goals, and challenges are unique, which means your website solution should be too. These FAQs are here to get you started, but if you don’t see your exact question answered—or if you’d prefer to talk it through—our team is just a click away. We’re always happy to cut through the noise and help you make confident decisions about your online presence.

How much does a new website cost—and what drives the price (pages, features, custom vs. template)?

Website pricing is a lot like buying a car—you can get a reliable sedan or a fully loaded sports car. A basic professional site might cost less if it uses existing templates and has only a handful of pages. On the other hand, a custom-built site with advanced features (think e-commerce, booking systems, or complex integrations) will naturally cost more.

Factors that affect pricing include:

  • The number of pages you need.
  • Design complexity—custom visuals vs. off-the-shelf themes.
  • Features and integrations—forms, CRM, e-commerce, scheduling tools.
  • Content creation—if we’re writing copy, sourcing photography, or migrating data.

At Sequent, we’re transparent about costs from the start. We’ll scope your project clearly so there are no surprise charges hiding in the fine print.

How long does it take to design and launch a site like mine?

Most websites we build are ready to launch in 6–10 weeks. A smaller, simpler site can go live faster, while a complex build with custom features or unique design elements may take longer.

The real timeline drivers are:

  • How quickly content (text, images, videos) is ready.
  • The number of feedback/revision cycles.
  • The complexity of features like e-commerce or scheduling.

Think of us like a good contractor, we move quickly, but we don’t skip steps. Our process is structured so you’re never left guessing what comes next.

Can you update my existing site, or do I need a full redesign/migration—and how do you protect my current SEO?

Sometimes your site just needs a fresh coat of paint, other times it needs a full remodel. We’ll review your existing website to see whether an update makes sense or if a full rebuild will serve you better.  Sign up for a free website audit today!

As for SEO—don’t worry. We take special care with 301 redirects, page structures, and on-page optimization so your search engine rankings aren’t lost in the shuffle. In fact, many of our clients see an improvement in rankings after a redesign because their new site is faster, cleaner, and better optimized.

What platform do you build on (e.g., WordPress), and will I be able to edit content myself?

We primarily build on WordPress because it’s flexible, powerful, and plays well with SEO. But unlike some developers who leave you locked out of your own site, we make sure you can update content yourself if you want to.

Want to add a blog post, swap a photo, or update your hours? Easy. Prefer never to log in at all? That’s fine too.  Our Website Management (WebCare+) offering ensures we can handle everything for you.

Who owns the website, domain, and content after launch (and what does my contract need to say)?

Short answer: You do.

First, you should ALWAYS keep ownership of your domain name.

When your project is complete and paid for, you own your site, your content, and your domain. It’s your business, your brand, your website.

We don’t believe in holding clients hostage with “mystery ownership” clauses. Everything we build is yours, though many clients choose to keep us around to manage, update, and optimize long-term.

Do you provide hosting, backups, security monitoring, and uptime support—or should I keep my current host?

We offer managed hosting as part of our Website Management plans, which includes:

  • 24/7 uptime monitoring.
  • Automated backups (with easy recovery if needed).
  • Security patches and updates.
  • Performance optimization for speed.

If you already have a host you love, that’s fine too, we can often work with them. But most clients prefer the peace of mind that comes with letting Sequent handle everything in one place.

What’s included in your Website Management plan (updates, performance tuning/Core Web Vitals, content edits)?

Our Virtual Web Team is like having an in-house IT and marketing squad—without the salaries. Webcare+ Plans include:

  • Ongoing updates for security and functionality.
  • Performance optimization, including Core Web Vitals improvements.
  • Content changes (like swapping out images, text, or calls-to-action).
  • 24/7 monitoring so downtime doesn’t sneak up on you.

Basically, we worry about your website so you don’t have to.

Will my site be optimized for SEO at launch, and when should I expect results? Do you handle local SEO?

Yes.  SEO is baked into our design process. Every site includes:

  • Clean, crawlable code.
  • Fast load times.
  • Mobile optimization.
  • Keyword-rich meta titles and descriptions.

But SEO isn’t magic. Results depend on competition in your industry, content quality, and whether you invest in ongoing optimization. Think of it as planting a garden: we set the soil, but growth takes time and care.

And yes—we absolutely handle local SEO, from Google Business Profile optimization to location-based keywords.

Do you write copy, supply photography, and migrate content—or do I need to provide those assets?

We can handle as much (or as little) as you like. Many clients prefer us to take the reins on copywriting and photography because we know how to blend conversion-focused content with SEO.

If you have existing materials you want to use, great—we’ll work them in. If not, we’ve got the writers, photographers, and stock resources to make your site look sharp and sound professional.

That being said, no one knows your industry or business better than you.  If you can give us some framework, we can take it from there.

Can you integrate forms, CRM, scheduling, e-commerce, and other tools we use?

Yes—one of our specialties is making your website play nicely with the other tools your business runs on. We can integrate:

  • Contact and intake forms.
  • CRMs like HubSpot or Salesforce.
  • Scheduling systems.
  • Payment gateways and e-commerce platforms.

If your business uses it, chances are we can connect it to your website. (If not, we’ll find a creative workaround.)

How do revisions/scope changes work, and how many rounds are included?

Every project includes defined rounds of revisions—usually two to three per phase—so you have plenty of chances to give feedback.

If you request changes that go beyond the original scope (say, turning a 5-page site into a 20-page site mid-project), we’ll quote that work separately so you’re never surprised.

We keep the process transparent, friendly, and flexible. Our goal isn’t to nickel-and-dime you…it’s to make sure you end up with a site you’re proud of.
